Rahula (Tibetan: kyab jug): worldly protector of the Dharma teachings (one of the eight highest protector deities). Despite his wrathful appearance, he is a Bodhisattva, an embodiment of compassion who acts for the benefit of sentient beings. His function is to avert the inner and outer obstacles that prevent beings from attaining spiritual realizations. He is a protector of 'revealed treasures' or ‘termas’. His lower body is that of a ‘Naga’ (coiled serpent spirit; poised to spring in any direction). age is uncertain - size; 19" tall x 12" across x 10" deep - cast in copper with 18k gold burnishing on body & 24k gold on faces.
